Super chill day, slept a lot (or seemed like a lot, since we lost another hour going forward a timezone as well). Mostly took care of some errands, paid bills, finished up some work I’ve been working on some side projects for the blog as I learn and transform the front end.
Sharing Meetup
Wasn’t sure I’d be awake, but just happened to wake up right around 10:30, so headed down to the meetup and caught up with folks. Lots of folks sharing really cool content, and taking advantage of the tik tok explosion. I have zero interest in blowing up or being an influencer…just sharing photos and data from the trip for fun.
But super fun group, and they’re doing interviews and stuff with networks. There IS a lot of misinformation being spread about the cruise from people not on the cruise, so I appreciate them correcting, and being on the front lines.
Lots of people also trying to stir up drama as well from afar (that aren’t even on the boat)…will comment on that another day.
Here’s our group photo of the day (my poor knee…)

Connecting Domains
Finally got around to messing with some of the other domains I have from random times. Got matti.world and matti.pics connected to this blog and instagram respectively. That was interesting, and now I know way more about 301 and 302 redirects than I ever thought I’d need to know personally and not for work.
Running Data!
Finally had some time to finish my scripts. Pulled together a quick python script to do the following.
- Connect to Garmin Connect API and authenticate
- Find list of activities for a date range (World Cruise started Dec 10th)
- Call and download each activity and download the data
- Transform the data into the right .kml format for Google Maps
- This was necessary because Google Maps only allows for 10 tracks, so you’d only have the option to import 10 days worth of Garmin exports, without transforming the data
- Export the data into Google Maps
Python script takes about 20 seconds to run now, and we get a fun little visual that I’ll keep up to date on where I’ve run (on water). The Google Maps link will keep being updated, and there’s an option to view it on Google Earth (which….I *think* will keep updated as well. If not, just go through the Google Maps link.
Google Earth (May work, not sure if it will auto update each day)
Lovely Surprise!
Came back to the stateroom for a late day nap to find a nice surprise from Royal Caribbean.

Of course my first thought was wondering if it was waterproof (inside Chan joke…iykyk). So of course I did a waterproofing test…and it appears to be fairly waterproof, or at least water resistant.
Rest of the Day
Took a very long nap afterwards which was glorious, and caught up with some netflix, then printed some of the photos so far to share, and stuck them on my cabin door…we’ll see if anyone wants them…

Took photos of the food, but nothing special today, I was mostly groggy from the nap when I stumbled down for dinner before they closed. French Onion Soup, Salmon and Ice Cream.
Seen on ship
Had a good laugh at this…apparently they’re still running on Windows 7 on their monitors here on the ship.

Vibes
5 parts joy – relaxing day catching up
