UWC Day 119 – Tokushima, Japan – Day Around Town and Puppet Theatre

Lovely Sunday exploring different sides of Tokushima including church, river cruise and traditional puppet theatre. Just a really nice relaxing and refreshing day!

Church

Started the morning at church with Marty meeting his new community. Really nice to be able to be at a service even with limited understanding of what they were saying. The pastors dog is SO cute as well and wanders around during service. First communion in quite a while since we’ve been wandering on the seas.

River Cruise

After church we set off and got to go on the river cruise tour of the city. Really relaxing cruise in just perfect sunny weather without it being too hot.

Wildlife and Views

Lots of wildlife spotted along the cruise and some great views of some of the sculptures.

Pier

Back at the pier we noticed a fun clear white piano that could be played. Seeing as how I only remember the VeggieTales themesong, I didn’t bother trying to play anything and embarrass myself.

Tokushima City

We explored a bit after the cruise, and walked a bit to lunch.

Lunch

We stopped to get some set lunches and got some tonkatsu. Again, super delicious. Can’t have enough food while in Japan.

Awa Puppet Theatre

We headed to catch a showing at the Puppet Theatre and it was really cool to see the puppets in Japan and get introduced (again) to the art form. Always nice to see the puppets Marty works with so much and is so good at. Since it was Sunday, we got a showing where it was essentially just us.

Show

We saw a scene from the The Pilgrim’s Song. The story itself was really interesting. Afterwards, Marty filled me in on the rest of the story that they didn’t tell (the other acts after are kind of gruesome). Really neat.

Museum

Stopped after the show in the museum and tried a puppet for a bit.

Chilling for the Evening

We headed back and rested a bit. Got some snacks for the evening over at 7-Eleven. A really full day, but really good for the soul.
