Great relaxing day taking care of some errands and hanging out with family in Hong Kong. Finished at night at a super relaxing art exhibition in the Harbour.

Mid Day Exploration
We set out for lunch, and to run a few errands during the day. Ended up heading to Aberdeen Square and got to grad some delicious food for lunch to start.
Lots of views as we traveled over. Really interesting design, but every couple high rises, there’s a hole in the building. Apparently it’s designed to let wind through….fascinating.

Lunch- Tai Hing
Delicious meets, but also got the Hong Kong specialty, the famous Iced Coffee, where they put the ice on the outside instead of inside. Not a huge coffee drinker but totally get why my parents like these, so smooth and delicious.

Upside to traveling with family who grew up here is that they know how everything works…was surprised to find that we just walk into the restaurant and seat yourself anywhere you can find a seat, there weren’t any seats but we waited for a second and someone gave up their seat cause they were finished and we grabbed it even before they had turned the table over.
Was also more amused than I should have to find that the silverware and utensils aren’t brought to you, but are also self serve from under the table. I guess when you don’t have a ton of space, you learn all the hacks to be economical and efficient with the space you do have!
Dessert – Ten Ren Bubble Tea
We saw the Ten Ren on the way into the little mall area but got it after lunch. Love some pu-erh tea with the boba and some pudding added as well. Delicious, and reminds me of dim sum and bubble tea all in one sip.

Errands
Stopped in one of hlthe shops for one of the cheap, 10 minute haircuts and got a trim which was nice to let my head breath again, then wandered around till we found a cell phone accessory store to replace my screen protector which is already peeling (useless products).
Exploration
Wandered a bit afterwards around Aberdeen Square and just looking at stuff.

Headed back afterwards to relax for a bit and clean up from the haircut before heading to dinner.
Times Square
Dinner was at times square, but we ended up getting there early so I went around to wander the building and plaza.

Tech
Found some tech shops and wandered around and coveted some of the new lenses, will probably wait to see what prices are like over in Japan.

Lego Store
Found a Lego store on one of the top floors, and found a fascinating model of Hong Kong with some really interesting flavor text.
Really intricate detail, and learned a little about the ding ding’s.

Arcade
Wandered all the way up to the arcade, and was amused to find this pretty large arcade. I remember as a kid, we always went to the carnival games at the state fair and played the games, and did arcades with dad while mom shopped. Wonder if it’s just part of Hong Kong culture growing up too.
We used to play this game where you slid dimes across a surface and tried to land them within a circle to win stuff, and I found a similar one up here in the arcade. Didn’t play any of it, but was amused.
Also found all sorts of cute disney merch in the claw machines. Definitely made a “the claw” line as I saw some LGMs in the claw machine.
Lastly, was SUPER amused to see that the basketballs are so well played and worn that they’re peeling.

Dinner with Family
As we waited for everyone to arrive, we watched some of the staff basting some roast pig (assuming with honey) and roasting it. Pretty neat stuff.
Dinner was the big family style dinner with all the bbq and fish and etc. Pretty traditional, and was very delicious (except for the fish…it was definitely overcooked, which was very sad). Had a great time catching up with uncles and aunties, and cousins I’m not sure I had met before (or maybe I just have the memory of a goldfish).

Harbour Art Installation
After dinner, we headed over to the Admiralty station to see the teamLab: Continuous art installation in the harbour.

We got to the installation and got to go in, watched some people just leaning on the eggs and listening to the music vibrate through them. Looked pretty calming actually.

As we were looking at the eggs, I did notice that the moon was putting on a show as well.

Vibe Check
5 parts joy – beautiful day in Hong Kong that felt like a day from my childhood visiting Hong Kong
