Roomates

I woke up and found some roomates in my room, which wasn’t a problem for me, but might’ve been for some folks. Totally get why they always tell you to clean all your clothes and shoes to make sure you’re not bringing invasive species with you unknowingly back to other countries, especially in the jungle. Always intriguing to watch things crawl upside down on the ceiling.

Setup

Spent the day squatting in the main area waiting to see if there was anything to do. Since it’s ramadan, most of the stuff in the area is closed all day, and everyone was just sitting around smoking (lots of smoke coming down wind, but I had a neck fan that I used to blow smoke away).

Around the Garden

Flora

All around the garden, observed more all day long, but mostly spent the day catching up once again. Took some time to wander and take some photos of all the wonderful flowers though.

Birds

Lots of birds having meals all day just drinking the nectar and going into the plants. Really pretty and some were pretty vocal as well.

Butterflies

Lots more butterflies as well all around. Was listening to the Encanto soundtrack while editing and listening to the song with butterflies and two butterflies were dancing right in front of me…pretty cool.

Macaques

As I was editing, some macaques started playing in a nearby tree, didn’t realize they came this close to the town and to the guest houses.

Green Crested Lizard

Perhaps the highlight of the day, as I was taking some photos of flowers, there was some movement right below me, and I discovered there was a green crested lizard (wiki) having a meal. It was so camouflaged, but as it ate, it caused the leaf to move a bunch. Beautiful creature though and it didn’t really care that I was there.

Mini Sumatran Tiger

There was the owners cat who was really friendly, but mostly wanted to eat all the food. I asked if he would eat fries cause he was eyeing my plate yesterday, and the owner rolled his eyes and said “he’ll eat EVERYTHING”. So we had to guard all our food as we ate, as he was prowling.

Super friendly though, kept wanting to sit on my lap / laptop and basically just chilled with me all day. I started calling him my mini sumatran tiger, since we didn’t go 3 weeks deep into the jungle to spot a tiger.

Food

Got a couple meals again at the guesthouse, but they were starting to run out of stuff. Apparently the grocery stores also don’t open until sunset as well, so during the day, they don’t have a ton of stock.

Itinerary

Trying to get back to the city to see if I could do some stuff around the city, I asked if they would drive me back to the city. The owner told me he’d ask the driver, but they didn’t show up to hang out and chill until around 9pm, and said they didn’t want to take me back to the city tomorrow, so I guess I’m just trapped at this guesthouse for now.

Vibe Check

3 parts joy

1 part sadness – not being able to get back to the city

1 part fear – what if I never get back to the city?
