Took Nate around the city, since Mom and I had been here about a year ago for the Honolulu Marathon. Had some great food, and really were motivated to find all the good dim sum.

Views from Ship
Lovely panoramic views right from the ship. Had a bit of time before we left for the day.

Chinatown for Dim Sum
First stop for the day was Dim Sum, and we decided to just walk over, since we were not THAT far away. Quick 15 minute walk, and it was really nice and cool in the morning breeze.
Stopped by a bakery so mom and Nate could get all the baked goods (and they heroically carried it around all day). As we were in the bakery, mom talked to a local and made an instant friend (extroverts….), and they told us there was a good dim sum place nearby (instead of the one we had just googled), so we followed her through the square and to the new dim sum place.

Dim Sum
Had some great dim sum, the carrot in particular was hilarious and great. It was just the deep fried mochi with custard inside, but it was colored and shaped with great presentation.

After dim sum, we decided to walk to Bishop Museum to walk off a few calories, and we had a good time taking some photos for Nate and mom. Hilarious watching them decide on a pose.

Bishop Museum
On the way to the Bishop Museum, saw a couple small gecko / lizards on the sidewalk. As we got to the parking lot, was not amused to find a packers car, and literally turned to Nate to give a boo hiss.

Love the bishop museum, some of the artifacts were not on display (assume they were back for restoration), but really neat to learn and appreciate the history and how the USA went and annexed Hawaii, etc.

The exhibit hall is now a room about light and optics, so that was a little fun. Wandered around for a bit playing with all the different exhibits. They even had a free laser maze (well…no additional cost).

Ala Moana Park
Afterwards, we took an Uber back to the city cause it was getting hot, and it was a little farther away from where we were.
Wandered around the park for a bit watching all the birds and walked to the beach.

Mom noticed that there were a ton of green birds up in the tree, so we stopped for a bit to watch. They were super camouflaged and didn’t see them at first until they started flying.

Saw a bunch of sandcastles in the sand (HIMYM reference).

Then as we were trying to find my mom. We found Betty the Grouch.

Humans are the Worst

Ala Moana Mall
We then headed over to the mall for a bit, to try to get round 2 of dim sum.
As we got there, it turned out that they had closed dim sum for the day, and had changed to the dinner menu. Nate wasn’t super interested in dinner, so we ended up leaving.
We split up, so that Nate and mom could go back to the ship, and I had to go run some errands to return my phone to Best Buy since UPS wouldn’t ship it back from Hawaii on UPS Ground.
Best Buy
Took WAAAY too long to get the phone turned in, but we finally got it all figured out, and I didn’t succumb to temptation and buy some more camera equipment while I was there. I did notice a nice rainbow as I was pulling into the parking lot, but got that all squared away, and hopefully that ends all the phone drama for the trip.

Food
Got some great food (forgot to take photos), but had some nice fresh fruit for dessert.
