UWC Day 063 – Transit Day – Maui, Hawaii

Kind of a weird day (seems like a theme for my birthday the last couple years). But eventually got to my destination, and ready for a little bit of time in paradise.

Starting the Day

Woke up with a migraine and knew it was gonna be a semi-rough day. Headed out with my stuff (thank goodness I repacked last night), and grabbed an uber to a HK style bakery nearby for some bakery goods. Turns out that it just happens to be Lunar New Year too, so lots of traffic around there, but also a few places closed as well. Ended up with a BBQ Pork Bun, a Pineapple Bun and a couple egg tarts for the road.

Airport

Headed to the airport next, and took the long drive over (again). Mostly tried to sleep off the migraine while heading in. Got all checked in and through security fairly quickly, then went over to the Delta lounge for a bit to try to get some rest and feel better. Sat there for about 2 hours before the flight trying to get the migraine to go away, but no dice.

Flight

Got boarded eventually, and got to my seat and tried to sleep and was in and out of sleep for about 5 of the 6 hours of the flight, but there were 3 adults sitting next to me (and across the aisle) talking really loudly the whole time, and then a family with 4 young kinds who weren’t crying, but whining really loudly and complaining…those poor parents.

In theory, I got some rest, but also, only felt mildly better as we approached Maui. But the views from the plane leaving and coming to Maui were amazing, and lovely.

Pickup and Errands

After collecting my bag, I went to go retrieve the camper van and then set out to get some supplies for the week. Found a Target nearby and bought some stuff for the week. By the time I was finished it was around 9pm, and I was so tired from the day, I caved and just went to the first place I saw that had food…a McDonalds (sigh :D).

Campsite

Got to the campsite around 10pm and it was so dark and trying to find the code for the gate from my phone, etc, was a fun little game, then trying not to blind everyone or keep everyone awake around me, I didn’t even bother setting up the tent, just decided to crash inside the car.

Temperature was a lovely 70 degrees, so just going to sleep with the windows down.

The View

One of the upsides to being out in the middle of nowhere with very little light pollution is that there is a lot more to see in the sky.

Vibe Check

3 parts joy – MAUI

2 part sadness – migraines suck
