Another relaxing day at sea. Catching up on rest, pictures and overall just enjoying life.
Entertainment
Watched a little bit of the Australian Open and some other sports in the Pub, while editing photos and just reminiscing about the last couple days in Chile. Ended up downloading Two Towers from my old purchases and listened to the soundtrack playing at the same time. Great movie.
Food
French onion soup REALLY hit the spot today, and then had coffee ice cream and raspberry shortcake. Had some ribs for a late night snack as well (forgot to photograph cause they were so good they were devoured quickly).
Itinerary Update
Got back to my stateroom to find that there were two crew putting notices on everyone’s door. I asked them “good news or bad news”? And they said “good, we think!”.
Turns out we’re cancelling our port call in Ecuador due to the civil unrest going on there. It definitely makes sense. In addition, we’re staying an extra day in Peru to see if people on the Machu Picchu tour might be able to go see the site.
They are blocked right now, as there’s a protest going on there that has stopped the train from operating. From a quick google search it sounds like the local tour operators have formed together to protest the privatization of ticket sales. I have no other knowledge other than that quick google search and don’t know anything about it, but honestly, a protest during this season, with all the eyeballs on it and the press they’d get, makes a lot of sense. We’ll see if we’re able to go. I’m not too worried about it (a lot of people on the ship are freaking out and want answers NOW). I’m still more in the vein of “whatever we see, we see” and there’s things we just can’t control in life (like humans….and also….humans are the worst).
I have seen and heard a lot of people be kinda mean and rude to the crew in “demanding” answers. This makes me sad. They are doing the best they can with the information they have. Pretty much any decision they make, someone is going to be angry and annoyed, and they’re doing their best to make our stay incredible (and have done so!).
