UWC Day 031 – Puerto Madryn, Argentina – Península Valdés

The tour from day 29 was originally supposed to be to the south of the peninsula, and I was going to see the north originally back with Royal Caribbean, but since the south side of the peninsula is closed at the moment, I had already seen the peninsula. I thought about trying to cancel the excursion or try a different one, but decided to just go and see what different things I’d see a second time.

Interesting day, and definitely much different traveling by bus (and large group).

Getting Back to Ship

Woke up early to get back to the ship since it was scheduled to dock at 7. I stumbled out around 6 and checked from the balcony to see what awaited me for the day, and to my surprise the Serenade was already pulling into port. Got some lovely photos with the sunrise on the Serenade before heading down into the harbor to get back to the ship.

After chatting with the port security for a sec, they pulled up a shuttle to take us down the pier, and checked out bags. Getting to the ship was relatively painless, and we got there and waited as they got the ramps ready for people to disembark. I eventually got back on going against the crowd and then quickly dropped some stuff off at my room before heading back down for the excursion.

Visitor Center

Stopped at the visitor center then headed on and saw a family of ostriches with some babies.

Caleta Valdés

Stopped again at the penguin overlook first.

At the overlooks, a lot less elephant seals and their fur was all gone. Really interesting to see the change after just two days. It was also SUPER windy out there and dust was flying everywhere as well.

Because the wind was so bad, I didn’t bother going down the trail and instead stayed up by the overlook.

Return to Puerto Madryn

Saw a few things on the way back, but it was so dusty and the bus didn’t filter anything, so there was a haze of dirt in the air inside the bus. It covered everything in a layer of dirt as well.

Food

Back to the ship for dinner. Chilled peach soup and sea bass (so delish).

Vibe Check

3 parts joy

2 parts sadness – for the wind and dust
