UWC Day 024 – Cruising Day

Slept late after the night run, and woke to an interesting situation that consumed most of the day.

Night Run

Last nights run was the Half Marathon (87 and 1/3 laps around the track). Was out so late, I saw the sun rise.

Went to sleep around 5:30 AM.

Starting the Morning

I woke up to go get a little bit of the run in, and keep knocking out some of the 48.6 miles (since it’s virtual…whatever, will try to get them in whenever and wherever I can).

I got dressed, got my compression sleeves on, and opened my door to leave, and found that the door wasn’t closing or moving at all…it just stayed open. It then dawned on me that I was also standing at an angle and I was slightly diagonal to the ground. It dawned on me that the ship must be slightly tipped. Amused, I went out to see what was going on.

As I took the elevator out, I noticed there was a ton of water everywhere, and my first thought was someone must’ve spilled a drink or something, cause there was a LOT of water on the walls. As the doors opened, I heard dripping and looked up through the opening to find there was water seeping in and dripping as well. About 5 seconds later, the captain came on the speakers to say “please don’t use the forward elevators, we’ve taken on some water from deck 12 blowing in through the doors”.

Apparently we had gone through a storm which I slept through most of it, but there were winds of 60 knots, and we were headed through it. Honestly, I didn’t really feel much, and by the time I got my coffee and headed out, we were already past the storm.

The outside decks though remained closed, cause apparently it was still pretty windy.

Killing Time

While I waited for the track to open up, I wandered over to the spa and found that there was no one there, so I ended up getting a haircut. Can you tell the difference (maybe not, but it feels great). Before on the left, after on the right.

Afterwards, the track still wasn’t open, so I just headed back to my stateroom to take a nap, but ended up just watching some of the Royal-Flix movies. Pretty easy to use, and a pretty big collection of some of my favorite old movies.

Food

On the way to dinner, I checked outside and they had opened stuff back up and it was nice and calm (pretty cool weather too).

Dinner was great (also I was super hungry since I hadn’t eaten anything all day). Chicken Wings and a “Egg Drop Soup” that was not what I thought it was, but equally delish. Special was a red snapper over rice pelaf and I threw in a strip steak as well, and then just followed it up with some ice cream.

More Running

Went out to try to get the marathon in to finish the Dopey Challenge. Got half of it done, but I was starting to feel hungry and knew I needed to get food before 1 AM when everything closes, so I just cut it short and will do the other half tomorrow.

Water Update

The water was mostly dried out when I left after running. They’ve been running the fans all day apparently, and two of the elevators are out in the forward section of the ship (out of 3). The crew has been amazing and I feel for them, it was a LOT of water, and very windy. They kept apologizing that the track wasn’t ready, but I kept assuring them, it’s not their fault, and also I’d rather be safe and sorry and you can’t really do anything about the weather. We’re all safe, and never once did I feel unsafe or unwell today. Major props to the RC staff.

Vibe Check

5 parts joy — ended up being a pretty chill and relaxed day
