UWC Day 005 – Cruising Day and Rest

Last couple days, only got about 4 hours (or less) of sleep at night, so seeing as how we had a cruising day, I took advantage and got a whopping 7.5 hours before waking up and just catching up on news (and other nonsense on my phone). Finally decided it was time to get up and out of the stateroom around 1 PM.

Book Signing

Was looking for a quiet place to just do some research on my running / data project, and stumbled into the book signing that was happening from Jessica Nabongo. I went back to my stateroom to grab the book, and then waited to get my book signed, but more importantly to let her know how much I enjoyed her talk the other day.

I then set up to relax in the lounge for a bit, but found that I was STILL pretty tired. Seeing as how the world is my oyster at the moment, I went back to the stateroom and took another long nap, which was glorious.

Waking Up Part II

Woke up the second time, and was really refreshed…guess I just needed some sleep. Wandered topside to do some more work, and stopped for a watermelon margarita on the way.

Noticed the sun was starting to set, so went and grabbed my tripod and set up for an hour and a half to get a nice little time lapse of the sunset. The moon was even visible toward the end of the sunset which was kind of fun. So of course, I went down and got my long lens as well to see what I might be able to capture.

Entertainment Update

Stopped after the sunset to watch a little bit of the Pirate of the Caribbean playing by the pool. Nice background music to some editing. Don’t worry, we have plenty of rum on board.

More Goodies!

Got back to the stateroom to discover more goodies! A certificate of achievement for visiting one of the world wonders, and then a really nice travel journal with some really useful information in the back (embassy info, zip codes, maps, etc.) and space to notate various trips and the like. Adding it to the collection of notebooks again, but just a really nice surprise to come back to!

Food

They keep outdoing themselves. Going to be hard to keep this up…I was all prepared to order the short ribs, cause who doesn’t love some ribs, but they told me there was a special off the menu, which I had to get pronounced to me multiple times, and finally had to ask the spelling cause I just had literally never heard of it before.

Nasi Goreng, or Indonesian Fried Rice. They had me at “egg” and “peanut sauce”, but then you throw in some meat too, and good gracious…it was so delicious, it brought me back to a Juicy Lucy from Blue Door back in Minnesota with a Breakfast Set and Jiffy added (google it….they’re also delicious).

It was so good, I ordered a second one for a post-midnight snack later. Can’t wait till we get to southeast asia to have even more!

Also had a seafood puff pastry, caesar salad and a chocolate hazelnut cake with icecream (I famously don’t like chocolate, but the hazelnut was delish, and was recommended by the staff, so I had to try).

Vibe Check

5 parts joy — so relaxed and recharged…about to go for a run

Afterthoughts

I noticed this, and didn’t actually read it, and I think I’m too late anyway now, but there’s apparently a UWC Choir…would’ve been fun, but also probably good that I didn’t add more hustle into my life, as I’m not sure I would normally be awake at all those times :D.
